Manga

October 30th, 2006

Well, after the last talk about manga, I decided to introduce/recommend another one: it’s entitled Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge (or Perfect Girl Evolution in English). This manga is very funny! And very unusual in the fact that the heroine sometimes looks damn scary. I mean scary as in Ringu’s Sadako scary… Really. And the heroine’s name is even Sunako! I think the mangaka deliberately chose that name *grins*. However, this manga is quite typical in the fact that the heroes (there are 4 of them) are all so cute! Kawaii! Bishounen even!

Anyway, the plot. It’s about Sunako’s aunt who wants the heroes’ help to turn scary Sunako into a proper lady. Hence, the title. So expect a lot of twists and turns, romance (rather typical for shojo manga), a few life’s lessons, and lots of entertaining scenes *grins*. I simply love the manga because it combines horror and comedy. Horrifyingly funny! Okay, bad pun. By the way, I have to warn you that a few scenes maybe a bit too, er, gory (as in bloody violence), and some involve nudity. Got it? Good.

On another note, it has also been turned into anime recently, so you can watch it now on YouTube *wink, wink*. However, I think the quality of the drawing in the anime is not too good… The horror parts are still quite good actually *smirks*. All in all, it’s still quite funny. By the way, I’ve put the anime’s opening song on my profile, so you can have a sneak preview there *grins*.

An unfortunate event

October 26th, 2006

Today, when I was vacuuming my room, I noticed that the keyboard of my laptop was a bit dirty. So, being the intelligent (and lazy) being that I am, I decided to just vacuum the surface of my keyboard to get rid of the dust. Normally, nothing happens, but today I could only watch as the vacuum sucked a key right off the keyboard and into the vacuum. And then… ARRGGHHHHHH!

I opened the vacuum and tried to search for the key inside the vacuum bag. There were dust and dirt everywhere… (obviously). Not to mention other stuff that also got sucked by the vacuum cleaner. Eurrghhh! Believe me, you wouldn’t want to experience it. And trying to find something like the very small key inside the vacuum bag is like, well, trying to find a needle in a haystack I suppose *grins*. After much groping around, I finally managed to find the damn thing.

However, my ordeal did not end there. I still had to stick the key back on my keyboard (after washing it thoroughly of course). I didn’t realize sticking it back would be so… tedious. After much grappling about, I managed to stick it back on. My ordeal was then over. Finally! *Grins*.

56_danger_ahead - My first thought, probably *grins*

Hari Raya

October 19th, 2006

Aah, it’s nearly the end of Ramadhan already. Time flies really fast… This will be the first time ever that I’m not celebrating Hari Raya with my family members, usually we will all gather a few days before Hari Raya; I’m feeling a bit sad, and I miss them very much. And I miss chatting with my siblings too! *Sigh*. Actually, the reality of it hasn’t really kick in yet, as I try not to think about it too much at this moment; if not, I might be bawling my eyes out… *Sob*.

Okay, moving on. Hari Raya in the UK can fall either on Sunday or Monday, probably a day earlier than Malaysia. If it’s on Monday (there’s a high probability of this), I even got lectures that day! Is that sad or what?! At least the Muslim community here in Bath will be organizing an Open Day @ jamuan Hari Raya to celebrate Aidil Fitri, just not on the day itself. Of course, we will have to cook the food ourselves, as we can’t really afford to hire caterers like back in Malaysia *grins*. Well, I don’t really mind, as I will get to eat delicious Malaysian food. Yay!

Anyway, I would like to take this chance to wish all the Muslims out there Happy Eid @ Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, and to anyone who knows me Maaf Zahir Batin.

180pxketupat2 - By the way, when you’re eating ketupat and rendang, do think about me *grins*.

Baby boom

October 13th, 2006

You know, quite a few of the people that I know are having babies. Two of my office mates have wives that just gave birth to a baby (both are boys), in consecutive days even! They even met at the same hospital, and their wards were next to each other. One of them had his baby born on the same date as his birthday! Talk about coincidence… It’s quite astonishing how these things can happen. Apart from that, my own brother’s wife (er, in other words my sister-in-law *grins*) is going to give birth some time at the end of October. Is this a baby boom or what?!

The week in summary

October 8th, 2006

Well, I had quite a busy week; there are classes to attend, and research to do, and seminars to go to. All in all, just your normal semester life *grins*. However, I’m now attending less class compared to last semester, so I have more time now to concentrate on my research (*coughslackoffcough*). And the International Office is also organizing some trips this semester, so that’s something to look forward to!

Apart from all that, yesterday I finally went to Bristol with some friends (mostly Malay) to buy some halal meat. Well, it’s not really in the center of Bristol, it’s actually a place just outside the city. I think people from Bath (at least the Malaysian ones) just like to go there because it’s very near to a train stop. Yeah, it doesn’t even have a train station, just a train stop. It’s like a stop in the middle of nowhere. However, there seem to be quite a lot of Muslims living there, because it has a butcher who sells halal meat. Very fresh!

Buying the meat was not a problem. However, after that we had a rather nightmare-ish experience. Since the place is like in the middle of nowhere, the train times are rather infrequent. Then, the train service broke down or something, and we waited at the train stop for nearly two hours, but still no train! We finally had to take two buses to get to the Bristol central train station. I’m telling you, travelling and walking all over the place with those heavy stuff were really tiring. And later, there was another buka puasa event, so I had to walk there too. Tiring, people! But the food were great! *Grins*. The nasi beriyani, ayam kurma and daging masak merah were really mouth-watering. Round of applause to the chefs! *Claps*. And I thank the hosts for inviting us!

Cuteharu - Aah, very cute Haruhi! *squeals*

Life…

October 2nd, 2006

Yup, it’s back to the normal, usual, routine life people; summer vacation is officially over! Today is the start of the new semester, and also the end of my time off. Well, it was great while it last, now it’s back to the real world. *Sigh*. Anyway, today the university was positively packed with people; there were long queues everywhere! I guess the ‘return to school’ syndrome is always a bit of a shock to the system *grins*.

By the way, my time off was spent wisely, as in I watched lots and lots of anime! *Grins*. Yup, I’m definitely cured now, I think I have enough of watching anime for awhile. The anime that I enjoyed the most were Saiunkoku Monogatari and Full Moon wo Sagashite. Well, Full Moon is quite an old anime, but it’s still enjoyable. In fact, I watched all 52 episodes of it! Really. And I really like the songs from Full Moon too, they’re really nice. Full Moon is a story about a girl who wanted to become a singer, so all the songs were really great. In fact, I’ve put one of my favourite songs from Full Moon on my profile… Go and hear it!

Anyway, last Saturday I had fun breaking fast (buka puasa) with some members of the Muslim community in Bath - mostly people from Malaysia and Brunei. Some of them I’ve met before, some are total strangers. But it was fun! And of course the food was great too *grins*. We even took a group picture! Thank you to all those people who organized this event and invited me (and who cooked all those delicious food *smiles*), I had a good time…
