Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End a.k.a. PotC 3

May 30th, 2007

Potc PotC 3 is finally here. Yeah, I’ve been waiting like forever for it to be shown! Well, at least since PotC 2, which was in the cinemas July last year. *grins* But anyway, some of you (and me too actually) could hardly vaguely remember the plot lines for the previous 2 movies, so I look it up on the trusty Wikipedia, and hey presto, they’re there! The whole summary even! Apart from the summary for PotC 1 and PotC 2, there is even summary for PotC 3! (warning! Read at your own peril! I take no blame…) And me, being the insanely curious person that I am, can’t help but read it (yeah, right). Opps? But the thing is, I still can’t understand it… much.

Even reading the spoilers beforehand didn’t deter me from going to watch it, since I already planned to go and watch it anyway. So today I went to watch it with… quite a lot of friends. 21 to be exact. Yeah, we made a whole troupe of it. Well, the more the merrier I guess. And I got a discount too, so yeah! *grins*

Anyway, going back to the main point: the movie itself. My opinion on the whole movie: it’s really entertaining. And enjoyable. Forget the whole convoluted plot, it’s a pirate movie for god’s sake, what do you expect? What you should expect is a lot of fighting scenes.

*Warning! A hell lot of spoilers ahead!*

However, I think the scenes for Chow Yun-Fat was too little. And the scenes involving Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley were too many - you can see that I’m not a massive fan of them. *grins* But yeah, lots of Johny Depp! Go Captain Jack Sparrow! Other than the drama (lots of backstabbing *smirks*) and fighting (sword-fighting yeah!), there was also romance. Actually, my friend Hajare said that the whole thing was rather like a big, grand romance or something. Which brings us to the ending (a post-credits scene), which my friends and I argued about. I read somewhere that "…if Calypso had greeted Davy Jones after his ten years of ferrying dead souls, then he would have been freed of his duty: in turn, Will is freed of his captaincy as Elizabeth remains faithful to him ten years later." I thought that it was sort of implied, you know, a happy ending a.k.a. happily-ever-after. But my friends disagreed. Well, whatever.

*Spoilers end*

All in all, it was good fun. *grins* But you might want to brush up your memory of PotC 2 before going, I think that helped me a lot. And knowing the summary before going also helped me enjoy it a bit more (as I didn’t have to try too hard to understand the plot), but hey, that’s just me.

Jack - Captain Jack Sparrow, in all his glory. *squeals* Opss…

10 Tips for Approaching Women - why did I put this here, since I’m a woman anyway? Simple. Because I find it funny. And very stereotype. But mostly funny. Read it to know "…surefire ways to intrigue her every time". Yeah, right

Why Don’t Men Talk Like Women Do? - yeah, why is that? Supposedly, "… the one thing that can make a contented guy discontented is being asked to talk about his feelings." Ooooo… And more importantly, " ‘Feelings’ is our (men’s) f-word." Aaahhh…. *sarcasm dripping*

Iamthequeenofsarcasim - Heh.

Something…

May 16th, 2007

Yeah, it’s time for articles again! *grins* I found a few interesting (interesting being an arbitrary word) ones on life:

Stop Looking For Love - basically, "…the best way to find love is to stop looking for it." And one very good advice is: don’t walk around thinking, "Oh my God, I’m alone.  I’m getting older.  I have to find someone." I totally agree with this guy! *grins*

5 Things Never to Say on a First Date - while you’re not actually looking for love, you can still go on dates, right? *winks*

Some are on health:

Can Flying Make You Sick? - hey, this is really interesting! "… surprisingly, travel health experts say airplanes typically don’t pose any bigger health or germ exposure risk than any other public place." Yeah, I’m quite surprised.

Games are Good for You - er, they’re actually referring to video games. Really. They say that video games can "…make you better, stronger, and faster." Huh?!!

Use Simple Techniques to Maintain, Improve Vision - something to try? *shrugs*

Toxins in the Kitchen - I’m not really sure about some of these, but if you’re feeling extra cautious, better be safe than sorry I guess. Supposedly, "Eating for longevity begins in the kitchen." Whatever.

Imagination - Well, does that mean I have a lack of imagination then? *grins*

P/S: To all the teachers out there, Happy (belated) Teacher’s Day!

It’s BBQ time!

May 12th, 2007

Today I attended a BBQ organized by the Malay community in Bath. It was especially organized as a sort of farewell party for the final year (undergrad) students. Thinking about them made me suddenly realize that I’ve been in Bath for nearly a year and a half now…Oh, how fast the time flies!

Anyway, there were a lot of people there, and lots of food too… *grins* Yummy! I enjoyed myself very much, chatting (@ gossipping *smirks*) and eating. However, I would have enjoyed it more if the weather was more… sunny. Well, at least less rain. The sporadic rain made things a bit… wet. But oh well… Anyway, thanks to the organizer(s) for organizing this event! Thanks a lot!!

Img_1384 - Food…. And more food…

Life is like a box of chocolates; you ALWAYS know what you’ll get… chocolate of course!

May 7th, 2007

A friend of mine (yeah you, AJ!)  asked me what I’ve been doing apart from reading articles online… And that made me feel a bit guilty, since I know I’ve only posted article recommendations in this blog lately. But what can I do? Basically, my life is so boring and uneventful, that I have nothing much to say about it. At all. Really. Nothing. Nada.

Of course, I can always whine about how busy I am with my work. That I have 2 reports to write and submit. That I have workshops and seminars and meetings to attend. I can also moan about my practically nonexistent social life (social life? What social life?). But who would want to hear me pine and whine and moan and groan? Nope, not me. *evil laughter*

Soevil_1 - Ah, Kyouya is a man after my own heart. *grins*

Of technology & food

May 2nd, 2007

Well, this time I got some really interesting articles to share - some are on technology:

Ten Steps to Cell Phone Security - okay, if you’re using a line for your handphone, you really have to read this article. Honest! The worst thing that can happen is you "had (your) cell phones stolen and were left stuck with a huge bill for unauthorized charges." That’s because of a statement in your contract that reads something like this: "Should your cell phone be lost or stolen you are responsible for any costs incurred for unauthorized calls made prior to reporting the cell phone missing." I’m not sure about Malaysia (and the rest of the world except the US), but better safe than sorry, right?

How To Look Thinner in Photos - er, for the horizontally challenged (like me)? *grin*

9 Ways to Save Money on Your Cell Phone Bill - well, I was attracted to the words "money", and "save". What can I say? *shrugs*

Uber Keyboard Costs More than Your PC - this article is not really that beneficial, but I just had to share the news about a keyboard that costs more than US$1,500!! Wow…

Some articles are on food:

Foods To Calm You Down Fast - feel your blood boiling or your head near to exploding? Fear not, you can save yourself by reading this article. *grins* Asparagus, anyone?

Coffee can be good for you - good news for all coffee addicts! But like all things, it has its benefits… and risks. Oh well, I don’t think a lot of people care anyway…

Anything - So true. *evil laughter*
