Of food & health

June 21st, 2007

Yeah, it’s time for articles again. *grins* I read some on food:

6 Healthy Reasons To Eat Watermelon - well, actually I don’t really need healthy reasons to eat watermelon as it’s one of my favourite fruits anyway! *grins* But it’s good to know that it has some benefits too…

Top 5 Ways to Spice Up Your Health - some spices are actually good for your health! Well, what do you know…

Malaysian Food Recipes - a friend told me about this website. Interesting stuff. And it has nice, mouth-watering photos of food too. *grins*

Some articles are on health:

Are Your Thoughts Making You Old? - evidently "positive images and embodiments of aging could have significant health benefits." So when you think of old, DON’T think "…fuddy-duddy, not fresh, decrepit, sad, wrinkly, tired, stiff, brittle, unhappy, invisible, obsolete, diminished, fat, fragile, cranky, and marginalized." Instead, think "wise and experienced…" Heh.

Is Your Computer Hazardous to Your Health? - it seems that "…we can injure our health by overusing or misusing our computers." Like yeah, obviously. Although it’s funny that office workers are being compared to assembly-line workers. *grins*

Sunscreen Myths - Busted! - wow, really interesting article. Not that I use much sunscreen anyway. Maybe I should start now? Heh.

Life

June 15th, 2007

I’ve been pretty busy with work @ research lately, that I’m feeling quite stressed. Really. So how do I un-stressed myself? By playing a (very addictive) online game called Flood It!, watching (quite a lot of) episodes of Mythbusters or/and reading some really funny online comics at PHD Comics. These comics are centered on the postgraduate (or graduate student as it’s called in the US) life. Some of them are quite true too… *grins* I’ll share with you some of my favourites (copyright of PHD Comics); I hope that other people will enjoy them too… *grins*

It’s BBQ time! (again)

June 9th, 2007

It’s officially summer today in the UK, as the weather today was hot… And what do the people here usually do when it’s hot? Img_1402 Organize a BBQ of course! *grins* Well, actually it’s a join birthday celebration for 3 of my friends, whose birthdays are actually yesterday, tomorrow and Monday. But they decided to hold a join party (more convenient!) today. And the weather was luckily (coincidentally) hot today, as it was not so good (rainy!) earlier this week.

However, it’s a bit of a shame (and really frustrating) that I couldn’t eat all those lovely meat stuff (not halal, remember?), and had to become a vegetarian for the day. Arrrghhhhh! Oh well… And I think I upset my stomach by drinking too much (carbonated) water, and eating too much fruits (strawberries! Yum!). *grins*

Some interesting Mexican food that a Mexican friend Img_1413cooked, but I couldn’t eat it because it got meat (pork!) in it. *sigh* ->

Of finance, technology & tests

June 4th, 2007

Found a few interesting articles on finance:

4 gas-saving myths - interesting stuff. With the ever-increasing price of gas, I suppose we need all the help we can get to cut our fuel consumption.

Overspending? Try a 7-day money challenge - hey, this article actually makes sense. "Do you ever wonder where your spending money goes or how you can spend so much on practically nothing in so little time?" Er, that does seem a tiny bit familiar somehow… *sheepish grin*

Some are on technology:

Basic Cell Phone Acronyms You Need to Know - er, it seems that I sort of need to read this then…

Learn How To Take Candid Photos - heh, maybe I should learn how to take candid photos; I think a lot of my photos are too pose-y. *grins*

Will the Best Battery Please Stand up? - interesting… I didn’t know that that a USB/battery combo exists. Well, nowadays I just use the usual rechargeable batteries anyway…

By the way, a friend of mine forwarded me a link to something called The Posh Test. Supposedly, you can tell how posh someone is from the test. Unfortunately, I’m just around 40% posh, so I won’t be getting called Posh Ady anytime soon… *laughs* Apart from this test, there are also The Chav Test (chav being at the other end of the spectrum from posh) and the The Geek Test. Yeah, well, I’ve always known I’m a bit geeky anyway - the test sort of confirms it. Heh.
